Intelligent Numbers
Route each incoming call to the right destination.
Intelligent numbering combines numbers and routing rules. For different schedules, languages or destinations, map the caller’s journey.
Availability, regulation and portability must be validated country by country.
Let’s talk
How it works
The customer dials one number; the business decides where and how to answer.
Numbers
Configured rulesTime schedule / Geographic area
Service centre A
Service centre BSeparate the number from the answering location
Inbound calls reach the number and follow defined rules: schedule, interactive voice response (IVR) menu or configured destination. The public number need not be tied to one office.
Design the tree to reach someone who can help. A long menu is not a good experience merely because it works technically.

Service centre BChange rules deliberately
For campaigns or out-of-hours operation, adjust routing using contracted features. Verify silence, invalid selections and busy destinations.
Receiving-centre capacity remains a limit. Number routing does not replace contact-centre queue and agent management.

Service centre BA plan when nobody can answer
Configure alternative destinations and contingency according to service capabilities. Rehearse failure, no answer and restoration without diversion loops.
Agree who changes routing and who verifies actual answering. Calls must reach a prepared alternative, not another endlessly ringing number.
Illustrative case: from situation to decision
- Situation
- One number must handle different languages and hours, including when a destination does not answer.
- Option
- Define menus, schedules and alternative destinations; separate these rules from agent queues.
- Check
- Walk through a call during opening hours, after hours, when busy and when unanswered.
Number availability, destinations, features and porting depend on country and variant.
Decisions for your project
- Numbering
- Countries, number types, porting and eligible destinations.
- Experience
- Schedules, languages, IVR and no-selection handling.
- Contingency
- Busy, no answer, failure and rule ownership.
From design to operation
Map the journey, record prompts and test every branch before publishing or porting the number.
