Colt IP Access
A dedicated foundation for applications that depend on the Internet.
Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) provides symmetric capacity. It fits sites and public services; review actual usage and what must keep working if an access fails.
The end-to-end availability of a public-facing application also depends on DNS, cloud, security and local design.
Let’s talk
How it works
A dedicated connection providing a defined foundation for traffic entering and leaving your business.

Handover point
Internet · SaaSFrom your network to the Internet
Traffic leaves the customer LAN and security controls, reaches the handover point and crosses dedicated IP access into the Colt network and the Internet. The service provides symmetric bandwidth; the design specifies capacity and addressing.
Define who manages the router and firewall, and how routes are exchanged. BGP is a routing option, not a feature to assume is included.

Internet · SaaSLocate the constraint before upgrading
A slow application may be affected by the LAN, firewall, access, an Internet segment or the SaaS provider. Correlate utilisation and availability with tests of the affected flow.
The Colt portal provides access information. Increasing capacity makes sense when that is the bottleneck; it does not by itself fix an application or an undersized internal network.

Internet · SaaSA single access has a clear limit
This diagram shows one access: if it becomes unavailable, there is no implicit backup route. Redundancy requires an alternative to be contracted and designed.
Validate diversity, equipment, routing and failover tests. Neither BGP nor two invoices proves that two physically independent paths exist.

Internet · SaaSActive / backup: automatic failover
The primary access carries traffic; the second takes over automatically when the configured mechanism detects failure. Colt offers high availability with a secondary fibre or mobile path, subject to feasibility.
Size backup capacity for the applications that must continue, and agree detection, routing and failback. Automatic does not mean instantaneous: test the firewall, NAT and public addressing, as switchover can interrupt sessions.

Internet · SaaSActive / active: both accesses working
Both accesses participate in service according to agreed routing policies. If one fails, routing automatically redirects traffic to the other after failure detection and convergence. This does not double the speed of each connection.
Resilience depends on actual diversity, equipment and remaining capacity. Validate inbound and outbound routes, firewall state and failure tests: two fibres in the same duct still share a risk.
Illustrative case: from situation to decision
- Situation
- The site runs calls and backups together and needs to keep working after a circuit fails.
- Option
- Size critical traffic and compare active/backup with active/active.
- Check
- Test configured automatic failover and recovery, remaining capacity and session behaviour.
Active/backup or active/active high availability is an option to design and contract. It does not guarantee zero interruption or continuity of every session.
Decisions for your project
- Capacity and usage
- Size sustained traffic, peaks, backups and public services. Separate bandwidth needs from continuity needs.
- Addressing and routes
- Specify IPv4/IPv6, prefixes and static routing or BGP according to the option and design.
- Demarcation and security
- Agree handover, managed or customer router, firewall and public IP exposure requiring protection.
- Resilience against outages
- Choose active/backup or active/active; validate paths, power, equipment, remaining capacity and failover tests. The SLA applies to the contracted variant.
From design to operation
We start with the site address, flows and current operations. Colt validates feasibility and service; we agree activation, capacity/routing tests and migration with a rollback plan.

- Understand the context
What’s changing, where your teams work and what cannot fail. Still defining the brief? We can help structure it.
- Design the options
Bring needs, Colt capabilities and technical criteria together. Compare alternatives and explain dependencies and limits.

Coverage, feasibility, responsibilities and terms. A commercial proposal is developed with the relevant specialists.
ColtPlatinum guides the project and coordinates commercial discussions and follow-up. Colt validates feasibility, enters into the service contract, and provisions, installs and delivers the services.
Availability, coverage, capabilities, SLAs and timelines are subject to technical validation and contract. No diagram is a service guarantee.
