Network & sites
Your sites are growing. Applications need to keep up.
Opening a site or dealing with slow applications? Look at the full path: local network, access and connections between locations. Tell us where it happens and what it affects so we can compare options for that situation.

SD-WAN policies
Sites and applicationsPolicies work over access services: they do not create fibre, coverage or physical diversity.
When it matters
Start with the symptom and its impact on work.
- A new site
- Identify its address, opening date and essential applications to distinguish access requirements from the local network.
- Site, cloud or Internet?
- Map destinations before choosing private networking, Internet or both for flows that take different paths.
- Calls keep breaking up
- Note the time, room and affected users: an active connection can still suffer delay or packet loss.
- Changes across many sites
- If every change needs different interventions, establish who manages access, equipment and policies.
Criteria for your project
- What needs to communicate?
- Map sites to applications. Private and Internet traffic may need different paths.
- Where does it slow down?
- Compare wired and Wi-Fi connections, peak times and applications to separate congestion, local network and remote service issues.
- What needs to keep working?
- List critical tasks and backup capacity; two connections do not establish two physically diverse routes.
- Who operates each layer?
- Assign local networking, routing and policies before comparing self-managed and managed services.
- What will change next?
- Identify new sites and expected peaks to compare fixed capacity with adjustments on eligible services.
Questions worth asking
Does SD-WAN replace connectivity?
No. A software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) applies policies over IP connections. Review available paths and their performance, then decide which applications can use each. It does not create bandwidth.
IP VPN or Internet?
IP VPN fits private connections between sites; Internet provides access to public services. They can coexist. Bring a list of applications and destinations so we can separate flows and compare routing, security and operations.
How do we check site coverage?
Check the address and service together. A connected building does not confirm every configuration. Provide the full address, capacity and required alternative so Colt can assess viable access for that site.
An isolated product is rarely the complete answer.
A critical new site
Illustrative case: an office needs Internet and telephony. IP Access provides connectivity; the local network connects devices. If continuity is required, compare a second connection and SD-WAN, then test critical tasks on the alternative path.
A hybrid network between sites
Illustrative case: internal applications use IP VPN and public applications use Internet. SD-WAN applies policy over those connections. Check performance, alternative capacity and session behaviour before migrating sites.

What happens next?
- Understand the context
What’s changing, where your teams work and what cannot fail. Still defining the brief? We can help structure it.
- Design the options
Bring needs, Colt capabilities and technical criteria together. Compare alternatives and explain dependencies and limits.
- Validate before committing
