Wave / Private Wave
Move large volumes while delegating optical transmission.
Wave provides managed optical channels; Private Wave uses customer-dedicated infrastructure. For large flows, compare interfaces, growth and protection.
Maximum capacity, latency and diversity depend on the route, interfaces, protection and coverage.
Let’s talk
How it works
Obtain optical transport with a defined operational boundary.
Customer interface A
Managed optical transport
Customer interface BOptical transport, not IP routing
The service transports the signal between agreed interfaces over managed optical infrastructure. Private Wave supports a dedicated optical architecture with a defined management scope.
The customer retains responsibilities for connected equipment and services. Specify interface format, protocols and handover rather than treating a wavelength as a routed WAN.
Customer interface A
Managed optical transport
Customer interface BSeparate client and line sides
An alarm can originate on the client interface or transport. Record errors, power and availability at agreed test points before assigning cause.
For storage or replication, validate protocol and application requirements too. Active transport does not prove servers can sustain the load.
Customer interface A
Managed optical transport
Customer interface BProtection with a defined scope
Colt lists path and equipment protection options. The offer must identify the option, covered points and restoration behaviour.
Agree failure and maintenance tests with sufficient alternative capacity. Protecting a wavelength does not eliminate shared power or customer-endpoint dependencies.
Illustrative case: from situation to decision
- Situation
- Several flows between centres need to grow under one optical operation.
- Option
- Compare Wave channels with a dedicated Private Wave platform according to topology and growth.
- Check
- Specify what is dedicated, what Colt manages and how contracted protection is tested.
Wave and Private Wave have different scopes; route, protection, equipment and encryption are variant-specific.
Decisions for your project
- Interface and protocol
- Ports, optics, signal format and transported service.
- Managed scope
- Wave or Private Wave, equipment, monitoring and responsibilities.
- Protection
- Route, redundant equipment, recovery behaviour and tests.
From design to operation
Validate interfaces and route, test transmission and customer service, and document protection and demarcation.

What happens next?
- Understand the context
What’s changing, where your teams work and what cannot fail. Still defining the brief? We can help structure it.
- Design the options
Bring needs, Colt capabilities and technical criteria together. Compare alternatives and explain dependencies and limits.
- Validate before committing
Coverage, feasibility, responsibilities and terms. A commercial proposal is developed with the relevant specialists.
ColtPlatinum guides the project and coordinates commercial discussions and follow-up. Colt validates feasibility, enters into the service contract, and provisions, installs and delivers the services.
Availability, coverage, capabilities, SLAs and timelines are subject to technical validation and contract. No diagram is a service guarantee.
